We collaborated with SABMiller to design and deliver an intense, 6-day European Managers Development Program (EMDP). The program design was based on research carried out by Hult EF Corporate Education to help create organizational change. Leveraging our expertise in effective learning, our goal was to prepare SABMiller’s current and future managers to drive impactful business growth.

With around 70,000 employees across 75 countries, SABMiller is one of the world’s largest brewers, with an extensive portfolio of premium and local beer, soft drinks, and fruit juices.

The Challenge

The EMDP program needed to tackle a range of organizational challenges at SABMiller. This included carefully approaching growth across European markets, tackling an increasingly tough ‘share of throat’, and developing current and future high potential leaders to support business growth.

Our impact

The intensive six-day program, with a theme that changes each year, was designed around core organizational competencies. The program aimed to prepare SABMiller’s most talented current and future managers to help drive business growth, which it achieved by developing the leadership pipeline and achieving notable business growth. Within one year of completing the program, 25% of participants were promoted and the company achieved a 95% retention rate, and business revenues increased from 2% to 5%, with margin growth beating competitors. These business successes were directly linked to the effectiveness of the company’s global leadership positions. The program turned good leaders into great ones, with participants making better decisions and using supportive coaching to discuss and resolve issues early. It also increased overall confidence, performance, and impact.
