How do Machiavellianism, narcissism and psychopathy impact leadership performance?

Until recently, most research into how personality affects organizational performance has been geared towards ‘bright’ personality traits, which are seen as desirable. Global financial crises and high-profile corporate scandals have made us wonder, how do ‘dark’ personality traits affect leadership performance? Does the dark side of personality accelerate career advancement? This research looks at how and why Machiavellianism, narcissism and psychopathy affect leadership performance. It also explores the influence of these dark personality traits on leader-follower relationships, and whether leaders have a better or worse relationship with followers that share similar dark personality traits.
